You know, I find it hard to compare the Old from the New, as they are two completely different styles and have their own strengths and weaknesses. For now, I'll just critique this one on its strengths and weaknesses.
Where it's strong is the overall golden hue throughout, which evokes a certain ancient mysticism appropriate to the subject. You also have a handle on textures which, I'll admit, I'm rather envious about. The background is to die-for. I also like how wispy and almost realistic his hair is, especially considering how wild it is.
Areas of improvement include the arms, especially in the shoulders. They look like paper-craft cut-outs, so I'd watch the values carefully. There's also how the cape flows behind him except to his right (or our left). If the wind is blowing one way, I feel it should go completely back, or if the wind is a little wilder, then the cape should reflect that. Finally, ping some highlights where your primary light source originates. I can't tell if it's the red highlight to the viewer's left or some light on the right, but if it is the right, Atem's face and cape could use a gentle going-over.
Overall, it's a wonderful, semi-realistic composition of Atem. It's wonderful to see other artists step outside of imitating Takahashi and having fun with their own styles and techniques.
